High-tides are fighting on

The Miami Beach Senior High schools boys Varsity basketball team have dribbled, dunked, and swooshed their way to a spot in the playoffs against northwestern on February 13, 2009 at 7:30.

At the home game on January 23, 2009 was a pivotal step toward getting in to the playoffs. The first quarter of the game had everyone on their toes and screaming excitedly; the high tides were beating Krop 11 to 7. “I can’t hear anything, I feel like I am in a box,” said Kamron McCaskill. “The only people I hear are Coach Garcia, my teammates on the bench, and my fellow players on the court.”

When the buzzer signaled halftime, their lead had slipped away, leaving the high tides losing 16 to 17. Adrenaline flew through the air when the third quarter ended with a score of 25 to 26. “High tides are fighting on” exclaimed Coach Sims. With the timer clicking to the end of the fourth quarter the crowd was on the edge of their seats as the game ended with high tides losing at a score of 34 to 38.

Even though the high tides lost their battle against Krop, they still had the playoffs to look forward to. “I think we’re going to do well, if we play hard” stated sophomore Ivan Artagaveytia, and player on the team.

For the playoffs the starters will be Alex Rabelo, Kamron McCaskill, Nick Potolsky, Fernando Ferreira, and Donnie Gaiter. “I believe that we’ll do fine, said Kamron McCaskill sophomore, “I have faith in all my teammates, and I know that they’ll bring their A game.”

According to Coach Garcia, “were going to do the best we can, were the underdogs”. Rene Sotolongo the only freshman on the team mused, “Were going to go all the way”.

Sports Reflection

Sports Reflection

I honestly really enjoyed writing this article. When you told us that we were going to have to a write a sports article I wasn’t really sure what sport to choose. I choose the varsity basketball, because I thought it would be an interesting topic to cover. I started my article off in the beginning about reviewing how the teams last home game went, I figured once I began to write it that it really wasn’t going to work, so I decided to write about the playoffs coming up and how they think they’re going to do. This is actually one of the few articles I have written and, I guess because I actually liked the topic and doing the research. I worked really hard on this article and I hope it pays off.

First Draft

(still thinking of a title)

“quote” says Alex Rebelo senior, and team captain of the varsity boys basketball team. The team has come a long way, from training since the beginning of the school year , and playing 19 games in total for this season, high tides seems ready for the playoffs February 16, 2009.

For the playoffs game the way they choose whose going to play against who they have a coin toss.  Blank won the coin toss so they’re going to play against us in the playoffs.  According to Ivan Artagaveytia, sophomores “we will do well if we play hard”.

Their last home game was on Friday January 23, 2009, but it did not turn out how they expected it to be. We lost our game against crop to(record), hopefully we will win they’ll turn it around for the  playoffs .  Kameron Mccaskill, sophomore says that, “I believe that we’ll do fine, I have faith in all my teammates, and I know that they’ll bring their A game.”

The star player s of the team, Alex Rebelo, Kameron Mccaskill, Nick Potoski, Fernando Ferriera, and Donnie Gator will probably start the of the playoffs. Asking the some of the players how they block out the crowd, Mccaskill said, “I can’t hear anything, I feel like I am in a box, the only people I can hear is Coach Garcia (coach for the boys varsity basketball),  my teammates on the bench, and my fellow players on the court.”

With the playoffs just a weeks away, the players are working extra hard and all we can hope for is the best.  Milton Hannah sophomore former player has much confidence that well do good he quoted, “of course were going to do good!”.  Rene Sotolongo the only freshman on the team stated, “Were going to go all the way.”

Reflection

Writing this article proved to be a challenge for me. I was uncertain of which words I would be allowed to use and whether they would be considered biased, as it is a review of a movie I feel this rule would apply differently than for other articles. When reviewing a movie it is necessary to describe your opinion on it, which in other articles is unacceptable, however, because it is necessary are there still words that you are not allowed to use because they would be too biased? I also found the article challenging to write in general as I was unsure of how to arrange it and what type of information to put in. For example, would it be a problem if I explained the story in great detail, because some might be disappointed if the movie was ruined for them.

I also found this article to have several easy aspects to writing it.

Four Christmases

Mollie Barasch

Second Draft (Nadine’s Edit)

This holiday season would not be complete without a trip to the movies. Of special note is the holiday theme of Four Christmases, directed by Seth Gordon and released in theaters November 26, 2008.

This movie discusses a couple that was planning on going to Fiji, but was unable to as a result of a snow storm. The parents of this couple began to bombard them with demands to visit them over Christmas. Unfortunately for the couple, the four parents all required their presence during the holiday, (Redundant) and as they lived in four different places it created a dilemma where they had to race around the town.

The couple struggles to enjoy the holiday season with all four of their divorced parents, hence the name “Four Christmases.”  The movie displayed several comical elements, such as when the couples race from house to house. A particularly memorable scene was when the camera man decides to film of all people, the leading couple, causing the whole conflict to occur, where they feel it necessary to visit all four divorced parents. (needs to be explained more clearly. Why is it a problem that they were filmed?) From the moment the movie began to the moment it ended, the theater was overwhelmed with raucous laughter.

This aspect of comical relief was absent in other holday related films. The movie displayed aspects (use a different word so that it’s not repetitive) of a great movie, such as attention to detail, (GOOD) humor, interesting topic, and relatability to people of all ages. People of all ages are able to relate to the humorous acts seen in this movie, and can laugh at the comical aspects as a result. (this is also needlessly repetitive)

Overall, just try to make it less formal and repetitive. I really like the points you made!
